A project aimed at boosting industry and start-ups in the secondary agriculture sector has been awarded to Punjab by the Centre’s Biotechnology Industry Research Assistant Council (BIRAC). The project would also boost farmers’ income and promote food processing in the State.
The project is a multi-institutional one with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology as the lead institute and National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Centre of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing and BioNEST, Panjab University, as the partner institutes.
Renu Swarup, secretary, DBT (Union Government), said, “BIRAC supports start-ups, for which it invites applications through a nationwide call. However, for the first time, under this project, a State-specific call has been given.”
