The Congress chief continues g with the template adopted in recent Assembly elections in Gujarat and Karnataka.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi will formally launch his party’s Madhya Pradesh campaign with a visit to the famous Lord Shiva temple at Omkareshwar in September.

Continuing with the template adopted in recent Assembly elections in Gujarat and Karnataka, Mr, Gandhi would also be taking bus yatras across the State during his campaign.

These decisions were taken at a meeting on Tuesday morning at the Congress chief’s residence where senior leaders reviewed the party’s strategy for Madhya Pradesh. Senior leaders who attended the meeting included M.P. Congress chief Kamal Nath, Lok Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia, Suresh Pachouri, Arun Yadav and Ajay Singh.

Out of power in the State for 15 years now, the Congress is trying to put up a strong challenge to the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in the State.

The Congress wants to encash on the anti-incumbency against the BJP government, mainly farmers whose angry protests resulted in the Mandsaur violence last year that killed six farmers in police firing.

On June 6, Mr. Gandhi had addressed a rally to mark the first anniversaryE and promised a loan waiver to farmers within 10 days of coming to power in the State. Keen to avoid a split in the anti-BJP votes, the Congress is seeking to tie up with the BSP.
