The demand to set up a museum at Keeladi and introduce a subject on the archaeological site to students was stressed upon at an event organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) at Chellam Century hall here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, MP Su. Venkatesan said that Keeladi should be declared a protected site. The excavations at Keeladi have proved to be successful and had drawn the attention of the public. He lauded the efforts made by archaeologists and stressed the need for a virtual museum at the site.

Film director M. Sasikumar said that it was encouraging to see school and college students taking an interest in Keeladi. With a large number of students visiting the site, he said that works on a museum at the site should be expedited.

Archaeologist C Santhalingam said that it was important to introduce a subject on Keeladi to students. He that added Keeladi was the brainchild of K. Amarnath Ramakrishna, the Superintending Archaeologist, who had overseen the excavation work in the first and the second phases.

A model of the archaeological site was put up at the entrance of the hall, which attracted the gathering. The efforts made by the DYFI members to recreate the archaeological site were appreciated by the guests.
