The number of people buying used bikes in the mass used commuter segment has grown 26% quarter on quarter (q-o-q), especially for brands like Honda (18%), Bajaj (14%) and Yamaha (3%), according to the latest QuikrBikes report.
“Brands like Honda and Bajaj are still in demand as it is purely brand recall value that they have built over the years,” the report said.
The report is based on the searches and buying and selling trends witnessed on Quikr, which of late, has emerged as a major platform for selling and buying used two wheelers.
According to the report, Honda Activa is popular in the metros because due to the affordability factor in the secondary market.
Based on Quikr platform data, it was found that the search trends for commuter bikes and scooters remained flat. TVS Apache saw a growth of 2% in Q1 2018 as compared to Q1 2017. “TVS remains as the top of the mind recall when people are searching for bikes. We saw that Bajaj Pulsar 150 and Yamaha FZ are the most searched models in this segment,” the report said.
In the used bikes segment, people in Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad seemed more inclined towards Bajaj Pulsar 150, while people in Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata remained interested in Yamaha R15. People of Mumbai preferred searching for Honda Unicorn more.
“Based on the trends seen on our platform, the commuter segment has matured over the recent years and its growth curve has been nearly flat y-o-y. Bajaj, Hero, Yamaha and Honda contribute to more than 80% of the total number of ads to sell bikes in this segment. Bajaj Pulsar 150, Yamaha FZ, Hero Splendor Plus are the most popular models in this category,” the report said.
In scooters, Honda Activa (55%) and Suzuki Access (19%) are found to be top-listed scooter models.
In the mid-capacity segment, Royal Enfield was the most sold brand as it saw a 4% growth q-o-q.
KTM too remains a popular brand in this segment, although it saw a slight drop of 3% in sales.
