It is the happy season of plenty in Karnataka, with good rains after years of deficient monsoon. However, incessant rains exceeding the normal range have washed away homes, claimed lives, and disrupted power supply in many villages abutting the Western Ghat range for days.

With electricity polls grounded owing to rains and winds, many villages in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and other Malnad districts have gone without power for nearly a week. Over 1,000 electricity polls have been destroyed in the two districts during the incessant rains. The ESCOM authorities have said that their work has been hampered by continuing rains.
