A 22-year-old woman from Chandigarh has alleged sexual assault by at least 40 men over four days in the Morni Hill area of Haryana’s Panchkula district.
The Haryana police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by IPS officer Anshu Singla, to investigate the case.
Three personnel, including the Morni assistant sub-inspector (ASI), a constable, and an ASI of the All-Women Police Station (Panchkula), have been suspended.
Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajender Kumar Meena said that, three accused had so far been arrested, and an investigation is under way.
“We are examining the CCTV footage. The case is being transferred to the Panchkula police from Chandigarh,” he said.
Kept in guesthouse
The woman, in her complaint lodged with Chandigarh’s Manimajra police station, said she was held captive at a guest house in Kaimbwala village, and was raped by at least 40 men from July 15 to 18.
Ranjit Singh, SHO, Manimajra police station, said that one of the accused, who was known to the victim and her husband, had taken the woman to the guest house on the pretext of giving her a job.
The victim’s husband told reporters, “She somehow managed to escape on Thursday, recounted the ordeal to the family and then approached the police.”
