Slippers were thrown at the rally of BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana, who is on a State-wide campaign to thwart the Telugu Desam Party’s “disinformation campaign” against the Narendra Modi government on Central assistance to overcome bifurcation blues at Kavali in SPSR Nellore District on Wednesday.

As Mr. Lakshminarayana, surrounded by hundreds of party cadre on motorcycles and cars, came in a big procession to the court centre amid tight security, a person threw the slippers towards him and tried flee after raising slogans for the Special Category Status.

Enraged BJP activists caught hold of Umamaheswara Rao (37) from Kandukur in Prakasam district and beat him black and blue before handing over to the police. Tension gripped the area as the BJP activists staged a dharna demanding action against Rao who they claimed had acted at the behest of some TDP Ministers from the district.

“The situation is under control with the posting of additional police force,” Kavali DSP K. Raghu said.

Condemning the “rowdyism”, BJP leader Kandukuri Satyanarayana demanded increase in the security cover to the BJP State chief who faced “threat to his life”.

Addressing the rally, Mr.Lakshminarayana said unable to digest the growing popularity of the BJP, the ruling party men were allegedly stooping to the level of physical attacks. Alleging that the Chandrababu Naidu government was steeped in corruption, he dared the Chief Minister to subject himself to a high-level probe into his omissions and commissions in the last 4-1/2 years. He saw a big scam in, among other things, construction of the capital and filling up the MBBS seats ignoring meritorious students.
