The re-jigged Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has extended the deadline to apply for Mumbai’s senior and under-19 coach’s post.

The CIC also decided to interview all the candidates on Wednesday.

At its first meeting, the revamped CIC, chaired by Karsan Ghavri, after scanning the six applications for Ranji coach and eight for U-19, extended the date for applications till Tuesday (July 10).

It is understood that the CIC felt the need to have more choices before finalising the Ranji coach. Ghavri, former Test left-arm bowler and Mumbai coach, played it safe while explaining the rationale behind the postponement. “We had a lengthy meeting on cricket and other issues. We need a little more time, so we have extended (the deadline) for three days,” Ghavri said.

“Those who missed out on applying in this time frame, have more time and will be considered.”

The MCA had originally sought applications for both the posts, along with those for physiotherapist and trainer, by July 3. It meant that interested coaches would get barely a week’s time to decide.

According to Ghavri, the CIC considered the factor and decided to wait a few more days. “This could be the reason we had fewer candidates. That’s why we have extended the time, we have more options, more choices.”
