16 teams for Thimmappiah Memorial cricket

Sixteen teams from across the country will compete in the KSCA Dr. (Capt.) K. Thimmappiah Memorial all-India cricket tournament, which commences on Wednesday.

The four-day matches will be held in Bengaluru and Mysuru. The teams are divided into four zones, with the zone toppers qualifying for the semifinals.

The final will commence on August 10, at Alur (1) ground.

duo lifts trophy

The Karnataka duo of Ashith Surya and Vasanth Kumar clinched the men’s doubles title of the Ghana International Series badminton tournament at Accra (Ghana).

In the final, Surya and Vasanth defeated another Karnataka pair — Vaibhav and Prakash Raj — 21-14, 15-21, 21-18.

Narrow win for CAG

Comptroller and Auditor General of India (New Delhi) beat Indian Air Force (Chandigarh) 1-0 in a tight game in the Bengaluru Super Division hockey league here on Monday.

Both the teams dribbled, passed and scooped brilliantly, but neither team managed to score a goal in the first half. CAG missed three penalty corner opportunities.

Five minutes to the hooter, a powerful reverse hit from CAG’s Tikei Kujur found the right top corner of the goal.
