Karan Johar has congratulated the team of Netflix’s first Indian original series, Sacred Games. The producer-director took to Twitter to offer praise for the crime drama, starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles.

“The bar is set!” Johar wrote on Sunday. “The standard is Gold! #sacredgames is the best digital content of the season! Brilliantly written, executed and performed! This crime series will keep you hooked and completely booked for season 2! Bravo!!!!!”

He also mentioned co-director Anurag Kashyap, whom he worked with on Bombay Velvet and Netlix’s recent anthology film, Lust Stories. “Huge congratulations and big applause to @VikramMotwane @anuragkashyap72 for their genius work on this breakthrough material! Superb!!!! And to @varungrover for steering the games with grit and edge of the seat emotion!”

Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra’s sprawling novel, was released on the streaming service on July 6. Vikramaditya Motwane, the director of the recent Bhavesh Joshi Superhero and films such as Lootera and Udaan, is the showrunner and co-director.

“The performance are spectacular! The entire cast is beyond amazing! The silence and solid strength of the super Saif Ali Khan! The absolute genius of @Nawazuddin_S the beautiful intensity of @radhika_apte and the entire ensemble are on point and super!” Johar continued.

Sacred Games has come under fire for its graphic nature, which includes sex, violence, bad language and an unfiltered outlook at Indian politics. A member of the Congress party has filed a petition against the show for its depiction of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. His son and current Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a tweet Saturday said that his “father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that.” Gandhi’s statement was lauded by the show’s creative team, including Kashyap.
