Nadia Almada has voiced her support for current Big Brother contestant Hallie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The reality star, 46, became the first transgender person to win Big Brother back in 2004 and said she feels ‘very protective’ of Hallie.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old came out as transgender to her fellow housemates on the second day in the house and received unanimous support.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Mirror, Nadia said: ‘I knew immediately once she came out and she made that beautiful moment to her housemates and the nation \u2013 presenting herself and her identity as trans \u2013 I automatically felt very protective of her.’<\/p>\n
Discussing the controversial moment on the show when Hallie was questioned about her sexuality – by now-evicted housemate Farida – she emphasised the importance of education regarding gender identity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

If Hallie were to win the show, Nadia said she would be happy to ‘pass on the baton’, and said: ‘At this point in my life I’m very happy to pass on the baton I will come and we’ll do a passing over of the crown of the new 21st century trans woman. I’ll be very happy to do that for Hallie!’<\/p>\n
She finished by saying that she envisioned a world where transgender individuals are seen beyond the headlines and can take on various roles in the media industry, free from sensationalism.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nadia’s appearance on Big Brother in 2004 marked a pivotal moment in\u00a0reality TV\u00a0history.<\/p>\n
She became the first\u00a0transgender\u00a0housemate on the show and went on to win it with a massive 3.9 million votes.<\/p>\n
Nadia humbly acknowledged the significance of her story, noting the emotional support from her fans.<\/p>\n
Despite this, the TV personality also revealed that her journey wasn’t without its share of transphobic abuse, both inside and outside the Big Brother house.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She recalled how\u00a0Davina McCall\u00a0– the host at the time – even made an insensitive remark during her time on the show, however Nadia acknowledged that she\u00a0probably feels ‘regretful’ and ‘remorseful about it now.’<\/p>\n
Six years after winning the show, Nadia re-entered the house for Ultimate Big Brother and Davina made another dig about the star’s ‘boyish good looks’ but later apologised.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said at the time: ‘Nadia has always been one of my favourite housemates of all time.<\/p>\n
‘But if I upset her or indeed anyone by the comment I made then I am horrified and offer my genuine apologies.’<\/p>\n
Nadia said that this type of abuse still exists today, albeit in different forms and that\u00a0language has evolved, making it less acceptable to use certain terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite her challenging experience, Nadia said she was hopeful about the future of the Big Brother series.<\/p>\n
The Portugese-born British is active on TikTok and hosts ‘BigToks’ where she engages with fans, but says she is not fazed by a minority of abusive comments that she receives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nadia said that she believes those who write abusive messages are misogynists, as she perceives the abuse as rooted in their hatred for women.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said: ‘I don’t even see it as transphobia I just see this person, assuming they are a cisgender male presenting and in essence they are misogynists \u2013 they hate women in general, that’s how I see it because that’s what it is.’<\/p>\n
