Ashley Cain's ex Safiyya Vorajee broke down as she tearfully admitted that she nearly took own life after death of her baby daughter Azaylia.
Little Azaylia tragically passed away in April 2021 at just eight months old after losing her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia.
Safiyya bravely opened up about her daughter's death during an appearance on the Saving Grace podcast, which is hosted by GK Barry.
The 36 year old said she had to learn to "execute her pain" and not succumb to a "why me" mindset, as she likened Azaylia's passing to "jumping off a cliff with nothing to hold on to".
Speaking about thinking "why me", Safiyya said: "I really tried not to do that. And that's because I felt so [suicidal] after I lost Azaylia that I thought if I start sitting in "Why me, why's this, why's this?"… that's why I had to execute my pain and turn my pain into purpose.
"'It was going to go two ways. I was either going to take my own life or I needed to execute it into purpose and make changes in the pain I've endured. And that's what I do."
Safiyya spoke about her daughter's diagnosis at just two months old, after she and Ashley took the little one to hospital due to mottling on her stomach.
Ashley and Safiyya thought Azaylia had a stomach infection, before they were told the devastating news that she had acute myeloid leukaemia, a rare form of blood cancer.
Azaylia was referred to Birmingham's Children Hospital, where she was for six months, with her parents Safiyya and Ashley by her side.
Recalling the experience, Safiyya said: "It felt like a nightmare. I thought I'd actually passed away. I felt I'd passed away and I was going to wake up." She spoke of how, whilst being a mum to her baby daughter, she also "became a nurse".
Safiyya's ex Ashley recently announced that he is set to become a father again, with a woman who he is not thought to be in a relationship with.
Sharing the news with The Sun on Sunday, Ashley, 33, who is expecting a baby boy with a mystery woman he's been friends with since the age of 18, broke down to tears as he said one of the first things he did was go to “Azaylia’s resting place” to “talk to her about it”.
Ashley and Safiyya supported each other throughout their hardest times before they announced that they split weeks before the one year anniversary of Azaylia’s tragic death.
Given their close relationship, Ashley told the publication that it was important to sit down with Safiyya and have a conversation to tell her about the pregnancy.
He said: “It was painful for Safiyya but it was also painful for me as well to talk to her.”
