Tom Hanks has called out a unknown dental company for using his likeness in an AI generated video

The 67-year-old actor took to Instagram to point out that there was a fake video of him out there promoting a dental.

“There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an Al version of me. I have nothing to do with it,” Hanks outlined.

The post has no recived over 54k likes – with most of his posts getting around 10k – 20k.

In the past the Polar Express star has discussed the possibility of his career extending post death through artificial intelligence technology.

Hanks has acknowledged the advancement in technology since his 2004 film The Polar Express, the first fully animated movie employing digital motion-capture technology, indicating AI’s capability to recreate realistic likenesses of actors.

“I can tell you that there are discussions going on in all of the guilds, all of the agencies, and all of the legal firms to establish the legal ramifications of our faces and voices being our intellectual property,” the actor noted on the Adam Buxton podcast.

The idea of utilizing AI is not limited to the movie industry, as musicians like the Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant consider the potential of AI to complete musical compositions.

This innovative technology, with its ability to de-age actors, was recently deployed in the latest Indiana Jones film.

It featured an 80-year-old Harrison Ford appearing in sequences set in 1944.

Such advancements, however, pose the risk of AI-generated versions of actors being featured in projects they wouldn’t typically choose.
