Strictly: Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin perform Argentine Tango

Layton Williams has responded to rumours that his father is a billionaire ahead of Strictly Come Dancing’s annual Blackpool showcase.

On Tuesday (14 November) the West End star took to social media to highlight that his Wikipedia page had been altered and that false information had been inserted.

In a screenshot, posted to Layton’s 59,000 X followers, it could be read that Williams was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, to a white mother and a billionaire father of Jamaican descent.

Alongside the picture, the 29-year-old wrote: “FYI, I was raised on a council estate in Bury.

“Unfortunately my dad is/was/(will probs never be) a billionaire.”

The following day, Layton corrected his typo and said the original sentiment was supposed to read “Is not/was”.

He wrote: “Is ‘NOT’ haha. 100% not. Not me confirming that he is,” followed by a laughing face.

In response, comedian Laura Smyth commented: “This feels like (sic) Tracy Beaker lies!”

The Strictly star replied: “Literally lol”.

Elsewhere, another fan said: “I see this often that ‘facts’ about people online are just total rubbish. Can’t believe hardly anything you read on the internet these days. Fab dance on Saturday by the way. Goosebumps!”

A second wrote: “Layton, haters hate up. Their lives are so horrible they hate to see others thrive. You are talented, a hard worker and a lovely person. AND, you come from Bury, you’ve got it all. Good luck for this weekend. Enjoy Blackpool.”

Another said: “Ha ha the power of IT these days!! It’s already changed lol. You are amazing for just being you @LaytonWilliams please don’t forget that.”

The collection of tweets comes ahead of Layton and his professional dance partner, Nikita Kuzmin, performing at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom this weekend.

On Saturday, the competition for the Glitterball Trophy is heading north, and the pair are expected to perform a Couple’s Choice to ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ by Christina Aguilera.

Last week, Layton and Nikita, 25, received an almost-perfect score of 39 from the judges and finished Week Eight in the top spot.

Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge Shirley Ballas each awarded the couple’s “iconic” Argentine Tango a 10.

However, Craig Revel Horwood unfortunately put a stopper in Layton’s success as he opted to award the dance – which was to ‘Tattoo’ by two-time Eurovision Song Contest winner, Loreen – a nine.

Strictly Come Dancing will be broadcast live from the legendary Blackpool Tower Ballroom this Saturday on BBC One from 6.40pm.
