While some debated whether the actor had undergone cosmetic surgery, and berated him for it just in case, very few pointed out that Zac had quietly been recovering from a serious injury.
One fan tried to get ahead of the vicious online commentary, writing on Instagram: “Before everyone comments about it Z said that his jaw shattered in an accident and he had to get it restructured which is supposedly why it looks different now.”
Speaking to Men’s Health in October last year, Hollywood star revealed that he had shattered his jaw a few years ago, but that due to the musculature around the injury, his face shape continues to change.
Zac has actually managed to injure his face twice, but the second incident was far more brutal as he was running around his home in socks when he slipped and smacked his chin against the corner of a granite fountain only to find his chin bone hanging off when he regained consciousness.

In the immediate recovery in 2021, the public had a similar reaction when they first saw the actor again claiming his face was “swollen”, but the actor explained it was simply because other muscles in his face had to compensate for the injured ones when it came to things like chewing.
However, Zac had no idea about the public speculation about what happened to his face until his mother told him.
Having grown to worldwide fame at 17-years-old, the actor has learned to avoid social media for everything but promotional work, admitting to Men’s Health: “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
